You might already know Phoenix native and frequent national anthem singer Jordin Sparks is a die-hard Arizona Cardinals fan and has been her entire life.
But in addition to Cardinal red, the 26-year-old pop star also bleeds Sun Devil maroon and gold.
"My dad was a Sun Devil. My mom and dad both went to ASU," Sparks told ABC15's Jason Snavely while taking in Cardinals training camp at University of Phoenix Stadium
In fact, if you're a long-time Sun Devil football fan, you're probably familiar with Jordin's father.
Phillippi Sparks attended Maryvale High School in Phoenix and went on to play football at Glendale Community College for two seasons before transferring to ASU, serving as both a cornerback and a kick/punt returner.
Sparks was selected by the New York Giants in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft, playing opposite Jason Sehorn for six seasons. He wrapped up his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys in 2000.
Because of her dad, Sparks said the Giants are her second-favorite team -- but like the Sun Devils, the Cardinals are No. 1 in her heart.
"As long as they're not playing the Cardinals, I want them to do well," she said. "But I'm a huge Cardinals fan."
Sparks' life took a detour when she won a small talent-show competition known as "American Idol" in 2007 when she was just 17 years old. That accolade propelled an incredible music career that includes a Grammy award and multiple national top-10 hits.
But if all that hadn't happened, there's a good chance she would have followed in her parents' footsteps by attending ASU.
"'American Idol' took over, so my collegiate career never took off," she said, "but that was probably one of the schools I was going to apply to."
