CLINTON TOWNSHIP - The Clinton Township Police Department is investigating its fourth fatal traffic crash in 21 days. The crash occurred on Sunday morning just after midnight on Hall road at Heydenreich.
Preliminary investigation and eyewitness account indicate a Kia Optima was traveling eastbound on Hall road driving on the paved shoulder. The Kia continued driving on the shoulder as the lane transitioned into a right turn lane for southbound Heydenreich. According to police, the Kia drove through the intersection where it struck a curb then directly into a pole which suspends the traffic signals.
Witnesses then contacted emergency services.
As a result of the crash the driver, a 32-year-old man from Dodus NY, sustained multiple injuries and his 7-year-old son was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Police say that alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, and the driver is in police custody.
Police continue to investigate and ask any witnesses to the crash or anyone having information pertinent to the crash to contact Det. Sgt C. Madajczyk at 586-493-7890 or traffic Sgt. C. Allis (586) 615-2525.
