BANNING, CA — Authorities are working to find a permanent home that can take a ferret with a fondness for French fries that was found earlier this week.
Tuesday morning, Riverside County Animal Services responded to Banning City Hall, where employees had found a crate left overnight on the steps. Inside was a ferret and a bunch of French fries.
"All he had in his cat carrier was a bunch of French fries," animal services officer Eric Magnum said. "And boy, does he love French fries."
Video posted by the county showed the ferret in a crate chowing down on a few fries. Watch the video in the player above.
Animal officers believe the ferret, which is illegal to own in California, was left around 2:30 a.m.
The county is working with state agencies to find an appropriate rescue organization that can take the animal.
If located, whoever left the animal could face a misdemeanor charge for abandoning a pet.
