Longtime Valley journalist Karla Navarrete joined the ABC15 News team in March, 2019.
Karla has spent almost all of her 20-year career in Phoenix, with a small stint in El Paso, Texas and Los Angeles, California. You can traditionally watch her reporting throughout our afternoon newscasts during the work week. Her career as a journalist carries today the same passion that brought her to Arizona after graduating from the University of Southern California in 1999. This May she celebrates 20 years in the news industry.
Her passion for quality storytelling, engaging with viewers and a genuine interest in Arizonans can be seen in her stories on ABC15.
Just about any story, Karla can certainly find an interest but her passion lives in education, immigration, and showcasing children who succeed amidst their learning disabilities.
Karla is married to husband Aldo and together they are raising a family of three: twins Mara and Mateo and the youngest is Marianna. The couple lives in the East Valley where they are both actively involved in their children’s education, volunteering as a PTO President for the last two years. “Be the change you expect to see” is Karla’s motto!
Karla is originally from Anthony, New Mexico—a small town located at the New Mexico/Texas order and grew up with strong educational and religious values.
In her rare spare time, Karla enjoys reading, bike riding in her neighborhood with her kids, and watching her kids play soccer and helping her daughter with her slime business!
