MESA — A woman has died following a fire that occurred at Venture Out, a 55+ retirement community,
According to Mesa Fire Department officials, crews responded to a trailer fire near Val Vista Drive and East Main Street shortly before 5 a.m. The home belonged to a couple in their 70s to 80s.
Fire crews reported a single-wide trailer home was fully engulfed, along with a car parked in the street.
Despite the intensity of the fire, crews were able to keep it from spreading to other units.
Officials said firefighters were able to make entry when the majority of the fire was extinguished. Once inside, they located a woman reported to be in her 70s to 80s. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 70s to 80s was able to escape the home. He was treated by medical responders and transported to the Maricopa Integrated Burn Center.
The man is being treated for smoke inhalation and possible burns, and was listed in stable condition when he was transported, according to Mesa fire officials.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
