NOGALES, AZ — A large cross-border drug tunnel has been discovered beneath the streets of Nogales.
The U.S. Border Patrol Tucson Sector and Mexico’s National Guard is working together to investigate the tunnel.
Agents located the entrance in the floor of the existing Grand Avenue drainage system in Mexico.

The rudimentary tunnel, located about 580 yards west of the Dennis DeConcin Crossing at the Nogales Port of Entry, is hand-dug with no shoring, ventilation or lighting, according to officials.
It runs about 15-20 feet underground at its deepest point and extends about 30 feet from beginning to end.
U.S. authorities will continue to monitor the area until the tunnel is filled.
This is the 126th tunnel discovered in the Tucson Sector since 1990 and the second discovered mid-completion this fiscal year.
