MESA, AZ — A wrong-way driver was involved in a crash on Loop 202 Thursday morning, sending three people to the hospital.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 3 a.m. near Baseline Road.
A blue Dodge pickup truck was reportedly traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Loop 202. The pickup struck a white Chrysler passenger car with three people inside.
DPS says the three occupants in the victim vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The wrong-way driver was also transported to the hospital.
On Friday, DPS said the driver was identified as 37-year-old Steven Ramirez of Sierra Vista. He was arrested for aggravated DUI and aggravated assault.
Northbound lanes of Loop 202 were shut down at Guadalupe Road for several hours during the investigation.
