Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a movie theater, restaurant, and bar, plans to open a second location in Tempe.

The theater will be part of The Collective, a 50,650-square-foot renovated mixed-use shopping and entertainment center at the former site of the Lake Country Village shopping center near Rural and Baseline Roads.

Alamo's Tempe theater will have seven screens and show new releases, classic movies and independent films, according to a release posted June 15 on its website.

It is expected to open next year, the release said.

Alamo is a dine-in theater where guests order food and snacks from their seat and have it brought to them during the movie.

We're told more tenants joining the shopping center will be announced later.

A 367-unit apartment complex called The Harper will be built next door to the shopping area and plans to open later this year, the release said.

“Lake Country Village is a longstanding part of our community. As a kid growing up in Tempe, I was there nearly every weekend with friends. The revitalization of this project as The Collective brings it back to life with new shops and great restaurants that are sure to attract residents and visitors alike," said Mayor Mark Mitchell in a prepared statement included in the release.
