PHOENIX — Nearly all of the major grocery stores in Arizona -- Albertsons, Safeway, WinCo, Bashas', and Sprouts -- have an "immediate" need for additional employees, as stores compete to keep their shelves stocked with everyday essentials that have become in high demand amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, before we go forward, it must be said: there is no need to stockpile items. Both federal and state officials, from President Donald Trump to Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, have said there is no need to stockpile items.

Albertsons and Safeway have more than 1,000 openings in Arizona, including cashiers, customer service, delivery drivers, and positions in the deli, bakery, meat, and produce departments, a news release said.

Those interested can apply online at www.careersatsafeway.com or www.albertsonscompanies.com. On Tuesday, March 24 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., hiring managers will conduct on-site interviews at individual stores. Those interested should bring an updated resume.

Fry's Food Stores have nearly 500 openings in Arizona, from hourly entry-level positions to management positions, according to Pam Giannonatti, Kroger corporate affairs manager. She said the company is looking to hire immediately.

Those interested can apply online at Jobs.frysfood.com.Positions include grocery clerk, e-commerce clerk, assistant front end manager, assistant grocery manager, deli manager, assistant producer manager, and certified pharmacy technician.

Because of the recent demand, WinCo has immediate openings as well, according to a note on its website. Positions include grocery lead clerk, cart clerk, freight stocker, cashier, truck driver, warehouse, deli, bakery, and bulk food.

Those interested can apply online at www.wincofoods.com/about/careers.

On Instagram, Bashas' said it was also in need of workers. "We need workers. If you're experience cut back hours or closure of your work space, reach out to your local Bashas'. We would love to help bridge the gap for you right now and get you to work," the grocery chain said.

People can apply at the store or online at jobs.bashas.com.

Sprouts has 200 positions to fill in Arizona, including part-time positions and management roles at its stores, distribution center, and support center, a spokesperson said. Those interested have been asked to apply online, sprouts.com/careers, and not directly at the store. You can also text “careers” to 480-800-8056 for more information.
