SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A Scottsdale favorite is bringing its giant Bavarian pretzels, Belgian-style fries, and German beers to Phoenix. And we do not have much longer to wait.

Owner Dave Andrea said Brat Haus is slated to open in June near the northeast corner of 16th Street and Bethany Home Road where Capriotti's Sandwich Shop use to be. It will be the restaurant's second location in the Valley.

"We’re excited to be in the neighborhood. I think the neighborhood will be excited to have us and we’re looking forward to getting the doors open and welcoming the neighbors with open arms," he told ABC15 in a recent interview.

Unlike the Scottsdale location, which is full service, the Phoenix restaurant will be a bit smaller, simplified and refined, said Andrea.

Customers will place their orders at a counter, find a seat, and an employee will bring the food to them. The menu has also been simplified. The appetizers and salads are gone leaving the focus on "really good brats, burgers, fries and pretzels. That’s our thing," he said.

Instead of 28 beers, there will be a dozen beers on tap, including German and Belgian brews.

"I think people will be pleasantly surprised," he said.

When it opens, the 2,000-square-foot restaurant will have about 100 seats split evenly between indoor and outdoor seating.

For those wondering, Andrea insists the Scottsdale location isn't going anywhere anytime soon. "That’s our flagship. That’s our home. And that’s not going [anywhere]. We’ve been there seven years now and are happy with it. It’s just some parts of that we can’t fight, which is the seasonality. Because the bulk of the seating is outside, between lack of tourists, and lack of indoor seating, we sort of suffer there during the summertime."

More Brat Haus locations could be coming to the Valley. While the focus is on opening the Phoenix location, Andrea said he is always on the hunt for the next possible spot. "Our intention is to expand. Once we get this one knocked out, we’ve already started to scout Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe."
