PHOENIX — A car wash in north Phoenix is looking to soak up some drive-thru scares ahead of Halloween.
The Quick Quack Car Wash, near 9th Street and Bell Road in north Phoenix, has turned its car wash into a family-friendly "haunted" attraction. A mini graveyard has been set up in front of the car wash, along with a fog machine, spider webs, and inflatable Halloween-themed figurines.
Inside the car wash, some spooky costumed characters will welcome cars through the wash, including a witch, a wolf, and someone donning a Jason mask. Black lights illuminate signs that read "Monday," "Rent," "APS Energy," "Sallie Mae," and "110 degrees," and multi-colored lights flash as cars go through the wash.
Mike Bruce, marketing manager for Quick Quack Car Wash, said they wanted to keep the attraction family-friendly and mix some spooks for the kids while also adding in some real-life scares without being too scary.
"You might see a student running up and down the showroom with a student loan trying to scare you. You might see rent. You might see the APS energy bill during the summer. That is all something that is very real-life scary, and we're hoping adults will be able to find humor in some of that scare," he said.
The actual wash takes about 3 minutes.
The haunted car wash will be open from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. from Thursday, Oct. 24 through Saturday, Oct. 26. The cost is $10.31 per wash, which includes their "better" wash.
They have also partnered with Home Fur Good, a local dog rescue, to raise money and supplies for that rescue. They will donate $2 to the rescue for anyone who signs up for a monthly membership.
