Downtown Phoenix's Arizona Center shopping area will receive a large-scale upgrade next year.

The million-square-foot retail-and-shopping center whose most notable tenants include AMC movie theatre, Hooters and Cold Stone Creamery, will undergo $25 million in renovations in 2017, Parallel Capital Partners announced this week.

Parallel Capital Partners and Angelo, Gordon & Co. acquired the shopping center in December 2015.

Construction is slated to begin early 2017 and estimated to take nine months to complete.

According to the release, the redesign will open the center up to the surrounding neighborhoods, allow it to possibly add more restaurants, retail stores, even a hotel, and modernize its look.

The parking garage along Fourth and Fillmore streets will be upgraded, and there will be a valet option along Third Street.

All tenants will be open during construction.
