Update (Jan. 8, 2020): A spokesperson for Chipotle confirmed to ABC15 that the Chipotle restaurant near Interstate 10 and Elliot Road opened on Dec. 31, 2019. That one includes one of Chipotle's "Chipotlanes" where people can pick up mobile or online orders. A second restaurant near 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road is scheduled to open on Jan. 21, 2020.
Original story:
Chipotle announced Thursday that it plans to open drive-thru lanes specifically for mobile orders at two Valley locations.
The test run is happening in Arizona, along with a few other states across the country.
Two locations have already opened in the Tucson and Yuma areas.
The other two locations will be in Tempe and Phoenix. The chain is expected to open the new “Chipotlanes” sometime this winter.
"By better suiting our restaurants to accommodate the digital business, we're able to finalize orders more effectively and provide a better overall experience for our guests," said Curt Garner, Chief Technology Officer.
Chipotle says due to the popularity of the “grab and go” option to avoid lines; their mobile order system has grown to a $1 billion industry in recent years.
"While we are staying true to Chipotle's heritage, we are also excited to integrate new, innovative physical features into the restaurant that complement our growing digital business," said Tabassum Zalotrawala, Chief Development Officer of Chipotle. "Our eco-friendly, natural aesthetic, and locally sourced approach to this design builds on our strong brand values and mission of cultivating a better world."
Chipotle says if the testing goes well, they will roll out the Chipotlanes to more markets and locations across the country.
