After months of construction, Flix Brewhouse announced that its dine-in movie theater and microbrewery -- its first location in the state -- will open in December.
The 35,000-square-foot venue will anchor Overstreet, a 77,000-square-foot entertainment and retail development near Chandler Blvd. and Arizona Avenue in downtown Chandler.
There will be nine auditoriums with 50-foot+ HD parabolic silver screens, a brewery on site, a bar with six Flix brews as well as regional beers, and a kitchen, according to a news release and Flix Brewhouse's website.
Breakfast restaurant, Over Easy, and Camp Social, a camping-themed restaurant and bar, have also confirmed plans to open locations at Overstreet.
Flix Brewhouse touts itself as an "adults-oriented" movie theater. It has some age restrictions on who can see movies and when.
- 17 and older: You can see any movie at any time
- Six to 16: You can see G, PG and PG-13 movies with a parent or responsible adult.
- Two to five: You can see G, PG and PG-13 movies that start before 7 p.m., not after. No R-rated movies allowed.
- Infants, toddlers, and strollers: Only allowed on "Baby Day" events.
The theater also has a no-late policy. Seating begins 30 minutes before the movie. Those who show up after the movie begins will not be allowed in.
Flix was founded in 2011 and has ten theatres (Chandler will be number 11) around the country.
Last year, the theater chain was looking into opening a second location in Peoria. However, a deal was not able to be worked out, said Greg Johnson, director of sales and marketing at Flix.
There are no other plans in the works right now, he said.
Editor's note: After this story was published, we have removed the tentative opening date at the request of Flix's PR agency.
