TEMPE, AZ — A pizzeria in downtown Tempe says it is letting guests add Cannabidiol, or CBD oil, to its pizza and drinks.

“I truly believe in innovative forms of treating pain and mood disorders, and I’m so proud we’re the first bar and restaurant in the area to offer CBD extract to our guests,” said Christopher Palma, owner of Spinelli's Pizzeria, in a statement.

Cannabidiol is extracted from the Cannabis plant, but does not contain psychoactive compounds, the part that gets people "high" (THC), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Spinelli's has six CBD-infused cocktails that will be available during the month of February, according to a news release. The pizzeria said the CBD extract, which is unflavored, can be added to cocktails, beer, and soft drinks for $5 extra. It'll cost $5 to add it to a single slice of pizza, or $10 for a whole pizza, the release said.

The CBD-infused cocktails include:

  • The Drug Mule: Tito’s Vodka, Agwa de Bolivia, Goslings Ginger Beer, fresh mint, CBD extract ($12)
  • CBDITO: Tito’s vodka mojito, CBD extract ($12)
  • Cucumber Lemonade: Hendrick’s Gin, homemade lemonade, CBD extract ($12)
  • Wake & Bake: Jack Daniel’s with CBD extract ($9)
  • The Caregiver’s Daughter: Southern Comfort, CBD extract ($9)
  • Doobie Snack: Malibu, melon liquor, Crème de Banana, pineapple juice, CBD extract ($9)

CBD is expected to be one of this year's top food trends, according to Forbes.com. A simple search online will find a multitude of websites selling CBD oil extracts, CBD-infused beauty products, and CBD-infused gummies.

In September, The Mint Dispensary opened a full-service kitchen in Tempe with a menu of marijuana-based items, including pizza, pasta, burgers, street tacos and fries.
