July restaurant openings: 15 new restaurants to try around Phoenix Andy's Frozen Custard, a Missouri-based dessert chain, opened its first Arizona eatery in July. It is in Ahwatukee near 48th Street and Warner Road. You can watch the custard being made in-house through the glass windows. The menu features vanilla and chocolate custards; concretes, or shakes with toppings mixed in, malts and banana splits.

Owner and chef Doug Robson's Mexican eatery, Gallo Blanco, reopened on July 1 near 10th and Pierce streets in downtown Phoenix. Robson renovated the "American Way Market" building for the dining room and built the kitchen outside of the restaurant. Gallo used to be at The Clarendon Hotel, but closed in 2015.

It was founded by three people and serves beer and food that is described as "American new age" bar food. Items include an Irish egg roll stuffed with corned beef and cabbage and a Philly egg roll stuffed with shaved steak, peppers and cheese. They have 12 taps featuring some of their favorite beers from local breweries. Once their system is up and running, they hope to have their own brews on tap by the end of September.

A third location is planned for North Scottsdale near the Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road. That one is expected to open in September.
