LAVEEN, AZ — The Valley is getting another movie theater.

Harkins, the Scottsdale-based theater chain, announced Tuesday that it would open a theater -- its 20th in the Phoenix metro -- in Laveen Village.

It will be part of "Laveen Park Place," a 100-acre development being built near 59th Avenue and Baseline Road, close to the Loop 202 South Mountain freeway, which is currently under construction.

The cinema will have 12 screens, including Harkins' Cine1 Auditorium, one of its largest auditoriums and screens; electric leather lounge seats; reserved seating; mobile ticketing; and a bar in the lobby and concessions, according to a news release.

Construction has not started, but the theater is expected to open in "late 2020," the release said.

“We are grateful to be able to bring another state-of-the-art theatre to the West Valley,” said Mike Bowers, president and CEO of Harkins, in a statement. “The area’s exciting growth and development drew us to the community of Laveen as the perfect location for our next Arizona theatre."

"As a local Arizona company, we are especially thrilled when we have the opportunity to join a new community in our home state. We’re honored to become part of the Laveen community and have the opportunity to bring our amenities and programs to new friends," said owner Dan Harkins in a statement.

The theater will anchor the development along with Sprouts.
