It turns out Kid Rock's bid to be a U.S. senator was part of a publicity stunt for his next album.
That's according to an interview Tuesday morning on Howard Stern's radio show, reported by our sister station, WXYZ in Detroit.
Rock also announced he would hit the road next year on his 'Greatest Show on Earth' tour, named after his song released over the summer.
The 20-city tour will visit Phoenix's Talking Stick Resort Arena on March 23, 2018. Tickets go on sale Nov. 3, the same day as his next album, Sweet Southern Sugar, is released.
Visit www.KidRock.com/tour for details.
Over the summer, Kid Rock teased in social media posts about a potential run for Senate, even launching a website, www.kidrockforsenate.com with themed t-shirts and hats available for purchase.
An "announcement" link on that site now redirects to another website promoting his tour and album.
