PHOENIX — A superhero-themed restaurant concept is set to make its U.S. debut in Phoenix.

Desert Ridge Marketplace announced Tuesday in a news release that ComicX, a Mexico-based comic-themed restaurant and bar, will open an 8,000-square-foot location between Sweet Tomatoes and Majerle's Sports Bar. It will be the first U.S. location for the concept.

The restaurant will feature figurines and memorabilia of heroes and villains, according to a news release. The menu appears to be traditional American-style comfort foods, according to ComicX's website, such as cheese sticks, fries, and wings. They also have a mix of burgers, wraps, pizzas, nachos and salads.

The concept was reportedly founded by four friends who wanted to combine their likes for good food and comic books, according to ComicX's website. They have multiple locations throughout Mexico.

"Desert Ridge Marketplace is the perfect location for our first U.S. concept," said Santiago Cota, co-founder of ComicX, in a prepared statement. We are excited to share the action-packed experience with the Valley!"

It is expected to open this summer.

The openings coincide with Desert Ridge's $15 million renovation to update the shopping center, which began in 2017. New restaurants include MidiCi, Flower Child, Barrio Queen, and The Whining Pig. CB Live, a new restaurant, bar and entertainment venue, opened in December.

In the fall, retailer H&M plans to open a 21,000-square-foot store.
