Since the launch (and mass popularity) of Pokemon Go--the virtual reality game that has people scavenging their neighborhoods and towns in search of mythical Pokemon creatures--some have looked to see how businesses would jump on the bandwagon (or not).
One feature that some have talked about is Lure, which attracts Pokemon to a particular spot for 30 minutes. Others have opened their doors to become unofficial Pokestops offering A/C to sweaty Pokemon catchers or offered discounts.
Below is a roundup of some of the promotions that local businesses are offering:
Wimpy’s Paradise
The burger and hot dog spot in downtown Chandler has deemed itself as the Valley’s “first” Pokemon Go “safe” place. Pokemon Master’s-in-training can go there to cool-off in the heat, let their data plan rest with free WiFi and re-fuel with 10 percent off any purchase (just keep the Pokemon app open).
Phoenix Zoo
Apparently the Phoenix Zoo has become a hot spot for Pokemon roaming around Phoenix. They’re probably also curious about the various animals at the zoo. To celebrate, the Phoenix Zoo will open up an hour early from July 17 – 23 for members and guests. Note: You still have to pay general admission. With over 30 reported Pokespots and a gym within the orangutan bilik, there’s a lot of experience to be had if you want to become the ultimate Pokemon master.
Venezia’s Pizza
Venezia’s Pizza wants to see where you’ve spotted Pokemon around the Valley. They’re giving away a free large one-topping pizza. All you have to do is post a screenshot of your Pokemon catch on their Facebook page for a chance to win.
Eklectic Pie
Eklectic Pie appears to be a Pokestop and a gym. So you can refill on Pokeballs and take your experience to the battlefield. On July 24, the pizza place will host a Pokemon Go pizza party and offer future Pokemon Masters a $5 pizza (any size and toppings). The promotion will last from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. The party will happen at their Chandler location only: 2990 E. Germann Road.
The Shops at Norterra
If you’re up in North Phoenix in search of Pokemon, The Shops at Norterra are giving away a $25 gift card to Sauce restaurant and two Harkins VIP movie passes. All you have to do is capture a Pokemon, take a screenshot and post it to their Facebook page for a chance to win.

Cantina Laredo
Cantina Laredo is offering Pokemon hunters a free top shelf guacamole through July 15. They also have free WiFi. You do have to buy an entree so if you need to re-fuel, that works. There are two locations in the Valley: Gilbert and scottsdale.
