Rita's Italian Ice is celebrating the first day of Spring with -- you guessed it -- free Italian ice!

The Philadelphia-based dessert chain expects its stores to give away more than a million cups of classic Italian Ice on Tuesday, March 20.

Custard can be added for $1, according to a news release. The promotion is available all day.

Rita's has nine locations in the state, all of which are in the Phoenix area, plus a location at the University of Phoenix Stadium. Find a location near you.

In October, Rita's began testing a frozen-custard concept in the Valley. While Rita's has had Italian ice and soft-serve custard for a while, the new concept -- Rita's Italian Ice & Creamery -- adds frozen hand-scooped custard that can be sandwiched between cookies, brownies or mini-waffles.

Flavors include salted caramel, pumpkin, mint, and chocolate fudge brownie.

The new concept also comes with a new look. The lime-green walls were swapped for bright red, along with a modern subway-tile design behind the counter.
