GILBERT, AZ — The developer behind San Tan Adventure Park, a proposed 4.5-acre family-friendly amusement park in Gilbert, said construction should begin over the summer with an opening planned for late 2021 or early 2022, as long as the project continues to make its way through the government approval processes.
The amusement park was first proposed in 2017 and anticipated to open in 2018, but for reasons unknown, the project was ultimately delayed.
According to the most recent proposal, the development will be built in two phases on the southwest corner of Crossroads Park near AZ Ice Gilbert ice skating complex, near Knox Road and SanTan Village Parkway.
The first phase will include "Miner's Mayhem," an 18-hole Western mining-themed miniature golf course, a go-kart track with 22 go-karts, a splash pad, and a building that will house concessions and ticketing, said Ben Cooper, the developer behind the project, in an email to ABC15.
The second phase will be an extension of the adventure park. However, details on what would be part of the second phase are undetermined right now, according to documents.
"We are excited to bring this new family-friendly entertainment venue to our community and we are grateful for the enthusiasm that everyone has shown us so far," he said in his email to ABC15.
The development recently went through its first review with the Town of Gilbert Design Review Board.
It is one of a few projects being developed in Gilbert.
A couple of miles away, Epicenter at Agritopia is under construction. That development, inspired to have a "Main Street" feel, will be home to high-end apartments, restaurants, and stores, including the second location of UnderTow, as well as Spinato's Pizzeria, Matt's Big Breakfast, and Belly Kitchen & Bar.
Near Epicenter will be Air Guitar, which is expected to be a modern take on a convenience store.
