Say goodbye to that free tea sample the next time you walk through the mall.

Starbucks on Thursday announced that it will close its 379 Teavana stores, many of which can be found in malls, by next year.

Teavana stores have "been persistently underperforming," the Seattle-based coffee chain said in a news release. Even with "creative merchandising and new store designs, the underperformance was likely to continue."

All stores will close over the next year, but most will close by spring 2018, the release said.

Teavana has multiple locations in the Phoenix-metro, including Chandler Fashion Center, SanTan Village, Scottsdale Fashion Square, Biltmore Fashion Park, Kierland Commons, and Arrowhead Towne Center.

An estimated 3,300 employees will be affected by the closure and all will be encouraged to apply for Starbucks store positions, Starbucks said.

Starbucks stores do sell Teavana teas.
