The White Mountain Apache Tribe said Wednesday that Sunrise Ski Park Resort will open Dec. 22.
The confusion began Wednesday afternoon when a Facebook post -- and a subsequent email blast -- from the ski park said, "Sunrise Park Resort is closed until further notice. Effective December 13, 2017."
No reason for the closure was given. ABC15 reached out to Sunrise's marketing department and got a similar response to what had been posted on Facebook.
Even more confusing, Sunrise sent a mass email out the day before with the subject line, "Sunrise is opening!" and an opening date of Friday, Dec. 15.
"We're making snow nightly, and working towards the top of Sunrise!" the email said.
Later Wednesday, Gwendena Lee- Gatewood, public information officer for the White Mountain Apache Tribe, said "management changes" were made at a Tribal Council meeting, but that the ski park would reopen.
In a Facebook message, she said the Tribe "is working on correcting the website notice and Facebook post and we apologize for any miscommunication."
On Thursday afternoon, Sunrise Park Resort sent a press release announcing plans to open Dec. 22 under new management.
Sunrise is located four hours northeast of Phoenix in Greer, Arizona.
