PHOENIX — Whether you're craving breakfast, pizza, something sweet, or just want to grab a beer with friends, there is a new spot in downtown Phoenix bringing together nearly a dozen mobile restaurants and breweries.
Known collectively as The Pemberton, the mainly outdoor entertainment venue is home to nearly a half-dozen concepts -- with others in the works and expected to open in the next few weeks.
It is located near Second and Portland Streets, not far from Roosevelt Row, at the historic Sarah H. Pemberton home, which was built in 1920. The home was added to Phoenix's historic registry in 2004.
What's open now:
Breakfast Bitch/Bitch on the Run: A San Diego-based breakfast and brunch restaurant. The main eatery replaced "Poppy" at the nearby Cambria Hotel. The "on the run" concept was designed for express service and has a limited menu. At night, the menu switches to BBQ.
Abnormal Beer Co: A San Diego-based brewery and winery. At Pemberton, Abnormal Beer Co. is housed inside a refurbished Airstream. They have a handful of beers on tap and in cans.
Dino's Pizza Napoletana: A locally-owned concept serving wood-fired pizzas and snacks, such as roasted olives, fresh ricotta, mussels, and octopus.
FilmBar: An independent movie theater. The Phoenix theater relocated to The Pemberton and opened an outdoor movie-watching venue with colorful plastic chairs. Currently, the venue can seat up to 76 people.
“What we've tried really hard to do here specifically is provide a healthy mix of local and and new kids on the block," said Biannca Dominguez, director of Programming + Partnerships.
Saint Pasta, Melt Ice Cream, Be.Coffee, Baja Fish Tacos and More, The Tamale Store, and a pop-up version of Shameless Burger are all in the works, she said. Saint Pasta is expected to open in mid-February.
There will also be a couple of clothing stores and weekly fitness classes, said Dominguez.
It is the latest project from developer True North Studios, which has bought and developed several buildings in the area, including the MonOrchid building, the Ten-O-One building, The Cambria Hotel, and the building that houses Character and Alias (formerly Josephine and Coup de Grace).
