While I can easily avoid overeating most foods, a bowl of queso and tortilla chips in front of me means all self-control is thrown out the window.
For me, it’s the crunch of the chips and the warmth of the cheese. And because when I’m chowing down, it usually means friends are there and the margaritas are flowing.
If queso is one of your weaknesses as well and you’re lucky enough to have an Abuelo’s restaurant near you, take note! They’re giving away free queso for life (yes, life!), so you should definitely enter, like, right now.
“For life” means you will receive one complimentary regular chile con queso dip per table, per visit. You will have to spend at least $10 each visit to get your queso and it cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts. It is also dine-in only, so no taking your queso to go.
There will be 30 winners per Abuelo’s restaurant location, so your odds of winning aren’t too bad, though it still depends on the number of eligible entries received. Winners will be selected in a random drawing on August 1, then contacted via email or phone.
To enter, just head to Abuelo’s website and fill out a short form now through July 31. There is no purchase necessary to win.
If you don’t have an Abuelo’s near you (the chain’s restaurants are located in 13 mostly southern U.S. states) or don’t win the queso for life, making queso in your own kitchen is actually pretty easy.
First, make sure you have a slow cooker, then just throw all the ingredients in there and let it do the work. Along with cheese, you’ll also need some things to spice it up like green chilis and jalapenos.
This recipe from Host the Toast calls for Monterey Jack cheese, American cheese, evaporated milk, cornstarch and other spices and peppers.
Is queso on your list of favorite foods?
