Nick's Heroes: Camelback Mountain 'guardian angel' helps hikers

and last updated

It's one of the Valley's most treasured landmarks, but its trails can be dangerous -- even deadly, especially when you factor in that summer heat.

But if you hike Camelback, you may run into one Valley man whose small act of kindness is preventing tragedies - and that's why Scott Cullymore is of Nick's Heroes!

"You can come up here and totally get lost," explains Cullymore. "It's amazing!"

So amazing, in fact, Cullymore hikes almost every day!

For the past few years, Cullymore has acted like a guardian angel on Camelback to hikers who need help.

Dehydrated. Lost. Injured. It doesn't matter - Cullymore has your back.

"He carries that extra load which is quite heavy just to make sure people who are up there are safe," explains Ilona Altman.

"I just look at it as helping a friend," explains Cullymore. "They are a stranger going this way, but they're a friend coming that way."

All around us in the Valley, people go above and beyond to help make our community even better. We want to know who they are! Nominate someone today and tell us why they should be one of Nick's Heroes. They could win a $500 gift card from our friends at Valley Toyota Dealers.
