Nick's Heroes: ICU trip for infant inspires "Pillows from Preston"

PHOENIX — Laura Kupper knows all too well what it's like to have a child fighting for their life.

In 2013 her son Preston, at just nine-months-old, was in the ICU suffering breathing issues.

It was a trying time, where family and friends had to prop her up, and in this case, with the help of a pillow that would change Laura's life forever.

"One of my friend's moms gave him a handmade pillow. When he was on the vent, the nurses wanted me to bring something from home, and the nurses went completely crazy for these because they could position him under his bed," Kupper said.

From there, Pillows from Preston was born. This year alone, they've already made 1,200 pillows, donating them to babies all across the U.S. and now, all around the world.

"Coming from the parent of a sick child, thankfully he is okay, but you get the sense of being alone. If you have someone, a complete stranger, come in and give you something it gives you the idea that someone is thinking of you and give you the hope that you're going to be okay," Kupper said.
