SCOTTSDALE, AZ — There's a whole lot of heart on stage and behind the scenes at the Detour Company Theater.

"It's always worth the journey because you always learn something on a detour you wouldn't have otherwise," said Sam.

And that's where Sam got the name for her theater company, where actors with disabilities shine even brighter than any Hollywood movie star.

"Perhaps they have all kinds of conditions. But those challenges make what they do more authentic. They have the right to a full, meaningful life. Part of that is giving them an opportunity to give their gifts away," said Sam.

"I've always imitated things and wanted to perform," explained Jenna Jenkins, an actress with Detour. "This is my dream, and I'm fulfilling it."

Sam, you're giving actors the chance to play a starring role in their own lives, and that is why you are one of Nick's Heroes.

All around us in the Valley, people go above and beyond to help make our community even better. We want to know who they are! Nominate someone today and tell us why they should be one of Nick's Heroes. They could win a $500 gift card from our friends at Valley Toyota Dealers.
