Dave Fuller never lets anything stop him!
"I never gave up hope, no. I had no idea whether I should be hopeful."
As a WWII Air Force veteran, Dave Fuller was stationed in Germany and was captured by the Nazis. He spent an entire year as a prisoner of war.
"It was marvelous to know it was all over."
After serving our country, Dave came to Phoenix where he transformed his talent as an artist into a career as a teacher with the Phoenix Union High School District.
"What you have to do is encourage each person in the class differently."
And that same compassionate spirit is what brought Dave to ICM Food and Clothing Bank in Phoenix. He's been volunteering here since 1975!
At 95 years young, he has more energy than ever.
"He's got a huge heart and he loves the community and he loves talking to people and keeping busy," explains Beth Fiorenza, executive director of ICM Food and Clothing Bank.
From sorting, greeting, even just smiling, Dave's contributions are undeniable.
"That's what's really special about Dave. Because I don't think he will ever stop. He's always going to volunteer until he can't."
Dave Fuller, your service to our country and to our community are things we can all admire and they make you one of Nick's Heroes!
