Love the sip on LaCroix all day long? Lots of people are obsessed with the zero-caloriebubbly beverage, but if you drink enough of the stuff, it can start to burn a hole in your wallet. Did you know you can actually make your own copycat LaCroix at home and save tons of money in the long run?

Yup, with the help of an at-home soda maker, you can have a steady stream of the fizzy, fruity beverage at the ready whenever you feel like it. You’ll have to make an initial investment of about $125 in the machine, but it will be well worth it once you’re no longer hitting the grocery store for packs of LaCroix on the regular. Besides saving money, making your own flavored seltzer is also better for the environment — here at Don’t Waste Your Money, we love a win-win!.

To make homemade LaCroix, all you need is the soda maker, super cold water and fresh-squeezed citrus juice. That’s it! The blogger behind Project Meal Plan says she been able to replicate a number of LaCroix flavors using this method, including grapefruit (Pamplemousse), lemon, lime, orange and lemon-lime.

She has a few tips for making sure your soda alternative comes out perfect. First, make sure you actually measure the citrus juice (about one tablespoon). Otherwise, your drink may end up way too sour, or, at the other extreme, flavorless. Be sure to also add the citrus juice slowly, so as not to make the drink fizz up too quickly and make a mess.

If you’re wondering how much cash you can actually save by getting your fizzy drink fix this way, the answer may surprise you. The blogger did a little math and determined that when making the drink at home, it comes out to about $0.033 per ounce, compared to $0.042 per ounce for LaCroix bought at the grocery store. She notes that the more you use your soda maker, the more value it will continue to provide!
