OdySea Aquarium’s Giant Porcupine Pufferfish SOLVES puzzles

SCOTTSDALE – Meet OdySea’s Giant Porcupine Pufferfish, Jalapeño! Jalapeño is a super-smart fish that can actually finish puzzles! Yes, puzzles. These are very similar to the ones you may have seen a dog solve to get treats.

“For his first introduction to the puzzle, I showed him how the flip switches worked. The second time he saw the puzzle, he had figured it out and used the lever to get his favorite snack— a shrimp,” said OdySea Aquarium Animal Care Specialist Alyssa Daily. “By using this puzzle, I have discovered just how good his memory is. He can go weeks without seeing the puzzle, but as soon as I introduce it again, he knows exactly what to do.”

The puzzles are a great way for him to learn, communicate, and also teach humans how smart a puffer fish really is. Jalapeño is a Giant Porcupine Pufferfish that is found in “Western Atlantic and through the Pacific.”

So how did Jalapeño get his name? Apparently, he can be a bit ‘spicy’! Who would have thought that fish could have such big personalities?
