PHOENIX – Either you’re nodding your head because you agree libraries are cool or you are sitting here confused waiting for some actual points to be made. Either way, here is a roundup of awesome things the library offers to its members.
Library cards- When they say these are free, they really mean it. There is no catch. Just head to the local library and sign up to immediately have access to books, magazines, movies, video games, music and so much more! All of it can be borrowed for weeks depending on if there is a waiting list.
No late fees- Starting in November, the Phoenix Public library is stopping all late fees. If someone forgets to return their book on Tuesday and it is now Thursday, just turn it in. There’s no consequence besides a warning. Members should still get it in so others can enjoy, but at least if it slips the mind, no one is out a few bucks. The only fee that will remain is a replacement fee for lost items.
New movies- Libraries are not just full of old classics your grandparents would watch. Yeah, they have those too but they also receive newly released movies right when they come out! Members may need to reserve a copy in advance because of high demand, but wait a few days and you can watch the newest Avengers movie for free.
Museum passes- Some libraries have tickets to local museums, art galleries and other amazing events going on in the area. With a library card, members can pick up a pair for free.
Audiobooks- On top of checking out physical copies of books, members can download audiobooks to listen to while on the go as well as download music. Most of the time this can be done without even visiting the library.
Seeds- Libraries can carry an assortment of seeds from fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plants for members to take home and plant.
Musical instruments- This helps to allow kids who may not be able to afford an instrument to still learn how to play. Some libraries offer borrowing of an assortment of instruments as well as how-to books.
Wifi and computer access- If you’re having a case of slow wifi or your computer is acting up, the library can be a savior. They have free wifi as well as computer areas with PCs members can use. Hot spots are also available.
Genealogy resources- Access to eResearch of ancestry and genealogy are available to members of the Phoenix Public library while in the building.
Open seven days a week- This is not true for all locations, but most are open 6-7 days a week. Burton Bare Central library is located at 1221 N. Central Avenue and is open everyday of the week. Check your local library website for more details on opening hours.
Rent a conference room- There are a variety of room sizes available to rent out for any meetings or presentations. These rentals require a fee and a reservation.
Library of things- A library of things is when a library has a variety of miscellaneous items a member can rent out for a few days. This could be tools, kitchen utensils, camping gear, games and so much more. Not every library has a library of things, but it’s worth it to check.
