SUN LAKES, AZ — A 14-year-old boy was arrested Saturday night for the murder of his aunt, Maricopa County officials said Monday.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Calbert Gillet said it is believed that 42-year-old Tonya Harper was killed in the early morning hours on Friday in Sun Lakes.
The incident happened off of E Oakwood Hills Drive. The other cross street is unknown.
MCSO says it appears the teen stabbed Harper in the neck.
The teen was booked into the southeast juvenile detention center for first-degree murder.
Gillet said the investigation is actively being worked by their office's homicide unit and it will be up to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office whether or not the suspect is charged as an adult.
Further details about what led up to the murder have not been released.
