Thinking of a amusement park getaway? Now is the time to book

You may think it’s too early to be thinking about booking your next family vacation. However, if you plan to take your family to a theme park sometime this year, now is the time to book.

For Star Wars fans, the highly-anticipated Star Wars Land will soon open at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland.

Amazing for fans, but not so amazing when it comes to your wallet. New park features make the ticket prices go up. Disney's tickets are already pricy, and they just went up 17 percent in less than a year.

But all is not lost if you are on a budget. There are some ways to save on theme park tickets.

Buy your tickets in advance. If you get your pass online before the big day, you can save around $25.

At Six Flags theme parks, you can save at 16 of their 18 parks if you bring a can of Coca-Cola with you. Savings range anywhere between $3-$15 off your ticket.

Additionally, at nearly all theme parks across the country, children under the age of 2 to 3 get in free!

If you’re a local resident, flaunt it! Local residents not only get deals on tickets, but on food, as well.

No matter what your favorite park is, avoid visiting on holidays. Try to visit during the off-season like May or September.

You can even try during the week. Tickets can be cheaper on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

With a little bit of planning, your spending for a fun-filled amusement park day doesn’t need to feel like you’re on a roller coaster.
