Phoenix-based Banner Health is joining 14 other health care systems nationwide in acquiring a minority stake in a personal protective equipment manufacturer that garnered national attention for its co-owner’s warnings of America’s PPE shortage and the paucity of domestic manufacturers.
The amount of the health care systems’ investment in privately-held Prestige Ameritech, which is located in the Fort Worth, Texas, area, was not disclosed.
Banner Health said Tuesday the systems are partnering in the investment with Premier Inc., a Charlotte, North Carolina, company that works with health care systems to improve their businesses.
Premier recently launched a strategy that includes investing in domestic suppliers of personal protective equipment and other suppliers of medical commodities that suffered shortages during the Covid-19 pandemic.
