Used auto retailer CarMax plans to hire hundreds of people in the Phoenix area by the end of the year, and will be holding a Nov. 12 career fair in Tempe.

The Virginia-based company is looking to add 300 employees in the Valley, including customer experience consultants for its call center in Tempe, as well as auto technicians, detailers, painters, inventory workers, sales associates and business office associates.

CarMax says its customer experience consultants will earn an average pay of $22.50 an hour, with opportunities to earn more and receive sign-on bonuses of $5,000, or $6,500 for bilingual applicants.

Candidates can be interviewed from inside their vehicles on Nov. 12 during the company’s Curbside Career Fair at the CarMax Customer Experience Center at 1515 W. 14th St. in Tempe from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All participants are required to wear masks during the event.
