Despite the airline industry being decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Phoenix-based regional carrier Mesa Air will be able to make payroll through September with assistance from the federal government.

Mesa Air Group, which operates flights for both American Airlines and United Airlines, announced Monday the company is expecting to receive $92.5 million from the U.S. Treasury Department under the Payroll Support Program.

The program is part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act that was passed by Congress at the end of March.

The money Mesa is receiving can only be used to continue paying employee wages, salaries and benefits from April 1 to Sept. 30.
