The city of Phoenix has issued a request for proposals to the tech sector to bridge the digital divide within the central Phoenix area.
The RFP is looking for a company that can design wireless broadband intranet connecting underserved students with classrooms. Proposals are due Nov. 24.
As COVID-19 cases surge in metro Phoenix, there is even more of a need for this technology as thousands of underprivileged youth lack adequate internet access to complete their school assignments, said Larry Johnson, president of Phoenix College.
"My role is setting the framework for removing barriers for students," Johnson said.
