Southwest Airlines Co. launched its first international service from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Thursday with two flights to Mexico.
Southwest, the second largest carrier at Sky Harbor, started nonstop service from Phoenix to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, increasing the region’s primary airport’s total international flight count.
The flights were initially announced in March, just days before the Covid-19 pandemic gripped the country.
Sky Harbor and city officials see it as a major win that Southwest has chosen to keep the flights during a time that is really uncertain for the commercial aviation industry.
