GLENDALE, AZ — A Glendale gym has been ordered to shut down by the Arizona Department of Health Services for reported violations of the state's executive health order.

Fitness 1 Gym, located at 35th Avenue and Union Hills Drive, received a Notice of Closure for Non-Compliance Thursday. See the closure order here.

They are ordered to "close for business and remain closed until it is granted permission to reopen," the notice says.

ABC15 has reached out to ADHS for more information about exactly why the closure notice was given, however, the notice says the business "has not applied or been approved by ADHS to reopen" as of Thursday.

Fitness 1 was also cited by Phoenix police earlier in the year for violating COVID-19 related policies.

When ABC15 spoke to patrons in August, on their way into Fitness 1,many expressed their appreciation for the business flouting the governor's executive order aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. Some members expressed their skepticism at the efficacy of masks, despite overwhelming scientific evidence. Others talked about the power of personal choice. But almost all talked about the importance of the gym in their lives.

Earlier this week,ADHS ordered a Scottsdale pizza restaurant to shut down for reported violations amid the pandemic.
