Arizona passes 50,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus after week of record-breaking numbers

PHOENIX — Arizona has surpassed 50,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus as our state continues to see record-breaking new reports from health officials.

According to information Sunday morning from the Arizona Department of Health Services, our state had 2,592 new cases reported, bringing Arizona to a total of 52,390 confirmed cases.

In the past week, we have continued to set single-day records for numbers of new cases being seen.

On Friday, our state saw its highest one-day case total so far, with 3,246 new cases. Saturday continued the concerning trend, with another 3,109 confirmed cases.

Last week, cities across the state began implementing requirements for masks when out in public, as spread of the virus continued to worsen.

Governor Ducey has also called on the National Guard to aid in contact tracing throughout the state.
