A Valley man is facing more than two dozen counts of cockfighting after police arrested him Saturday at his south Phoenix home.

Police say between 10 and 20 people attended a cockfighting match in Anselmo Moreno Gamez's backyard near 17th Avenue and Broadway Road.

Police report that they arrested the 46-year-old and seized 26 roosters at the property.

They say that Gamez converted the back yard chicken coop into a cockfighting ring.

Police say they also found numerous fighting kits which included gaff knives and ties. They also found one severely injured bird with gaffs still attached to its legs.

The Arizona Humane society also assisted in this investigation.
