PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a man accused of murdering his ex-wife and her roommate and then kidnapping his two sons in 2018 has been extradited to Phoenix from Mexico.
Police say on September 1, 2018, 48-year-old Dimas Coronado Chafino allegedly shot and killed his pregnant ex-wife, 24-year-old Oralia Nunez, and her roommate, 34-year-old Omar Gonzalez.
Nunez was 22 weeks pregnant at the time, and the baby also did not survive.
Chafino then allegedly kidnapped his two young sons, who he did not have legal custody of, prompting an Amber Alert. Investigators believed Chafino had fled the country with the two children.
Phoenix police announced in February that Chafino had been arrested in Mexico, and his two children were located safely and returned to family.
Chafino was extradited to Phoenix on Thursday and questioned by Phoenix police. Chafino reportedly admitted to police that he took the children and fled to Mexico, but claims he was not involved in the murders of Nunez and Gonzalez.
Chafino faces two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, one count of burglary, and one count of failure to comply with a court order.
