PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was charged with child abuse after his baby fell from his bed twice, causing skull fractures.

Last week, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office charged Jose Luis Cazares, 18, with child abuse.

Investigators with the Phoenix Police Department and the Arizona Department Child Safety reportedly warned Cazares about placing his baby on an elevated bed after the 9-month-old boy fell and suffered a skull fracture.

Police say last August the child was again left alone on the bed at Cazares' home, near 59th Avenue and Camelback Road, and fell onto the tile floor. The baby was taken to a local hospital where it was learned he suffered another skull fracture.

Cazares has been summoned to appear for his first court appearance on March 2.

If you suspect a child is being abused, the Arizona Department of Child Services has resources available to report the issue to a social worker. You can call the Arizona Child Abuse Hotline at 1-888-SOS-CHILD (1-888-767-2445), and will be asked for information about the child, as well as the nature of your concerns. You can also get more information from DCS about reporting abuse or neglect online.
