PHOENIX — Phoenix police are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was shot and killed by a security guard at a business in Phoenix Saturday morning.

Officers say they responded to a shooting call at around 5:30 a.m. near Interstate 17 and Camelback Road. When they arrived, they located 21-year-old Maurice Jones with gunshot wounds.

Jones was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed that Jones' vehicle was blocking the business for several hours and security guards say he was uncooperative and got into a confontation with them.

During the confrontation, officers say Jones began to physically fight with a 51-year-old male security guard who allegedly shot him during the altercation.

Officers say the security guard remained on scene and is cooperating with detectives.

Phoenix police say this is an ongoing investigation.
