Police say an Arizona man threatened restaurant workers last week in an attempt to rob them.

On the morning of March 23, Joseph Gabriel Martinez, 25, walked into the Church's Fried Chicken near Central Avenue and Baseline Road and tried to rob it, according to court documents.

Martinez allegedly told a clerk, "If you don't give me the money in the register, I'm going to hurt you."

The clerk alerted police and Martinez left.

Police say Martinez walked across the street to a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and tried his luck there.

"I have a gun in my pocket, give me all the money in the register and I won't hurt you," Martinez reportedly said to the clerk there.

The clerk triggered an alarm and the suspect ran away. Police said in records that the clerk followed the suspect who walked into another store, Fallas Paradas general store, located down the street.

Police arrived and Martinez was taken into custody. The suspect was charged with two counts of armed robbery.
