MESA, AZ — An armed robber zip tied a store manager to a safe and threatened to shoot customers.

Mesa police report that on April 25, a man later identified as 41-year-old Larry Ulysses Beavers, robbed the Starbucks at Power and Baseline roads.

The next night, Beavers, who also goes by the name Blessed Espanio, went to the Bashas' store near Power and McDowell roads and revealed a handgun to the store manager.

He allegedly threatened to shoot the manager and store customers if the manager didn't open the store safe. The manager complied and gave Beavers the cash. Beavers then instructed the manager to zip tie himself to the safe.

Mesa police later received information indicating that Beavers might have been involved in robberies outside of Mesa. Both the Starbucks and Bashas' victims confirmed that this was the same man who robbed their stores.

Beavers was located and arrested at his home in Chandler.

He has been charged with multiple counts of kidnapping and armed robbery. Court records show that charges from Chandler and Gilbert police are pending.
