MESA, AZ — A woman has been arrested nearly a month after a fatal hit and run crash in Mesa.

Mesa police report that on November 13 Helena Salina Rodriguez was struck and killed on Broadway Road near Hawes Road.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Rodriguez left the scene.

The next morning police received a call of a damaged vehicle that was abandoned about a half mile from the crash scene.

Police say they were able to match items from the car to debris at the scene.

Police used home surveillance video and witnesses to determine that 53-year-old Lori Ann Clardy was driving the car at the time of the crash.

Police say when Clardy found out police were looking for her she called to report that her car had been stolen.

Investigators say she then left the country, going to Peru after the crash, but later returned and was convinced by her attorney to surrender.

Clardy is being held on a $100,000 bond for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
