MESA, AZ — Mesa residents captured a home invader who was armed with a knife.
Some Mesa residents got an early fright Halloween morning when they saw a man outside a window holding a knife, according to police. Police say Kyle Robert Wauneka, 32, kicked in the window and entered the home.
When one victim knocked the knife from his hand, Wauneka allegedly grabbed a piece of glass and attempted to stab the victims. The same victim managed to get the glass out of Wauneka's hands, take him to the ground, and hold him while the other victim contacted police.
Police say Wauneka appeared to be under the influence of drugs, saying "someone was chasing me."
Wauneka was arrested a few days later after his release from a Valley hospital.
He has been charged with burglary and aggravated assault.
